Canada Day: Ten Reasons to be Proud to be Canadian
With 10 provinces, three territories and almost 10 million square kilometres of land, Canada is a pretty cool place. There are so many reasons to love this country, and with Canada Day right around the corner, we think they’re worth celebrating! Fitneff is proud to be a Canadian company from the start, so paying homage to our home nation is the least we can do for this holiday.
Without further ado, here’s our list of the top 10 reasons to be proud to be Canadian:
1) We’re Very Polite
It’s a pretty well-known fact that Canadians are famous for being polite. If we’re not holding a door open for someone or sharing a friendly smile, we’re probably apologizing several times for something that wasn’t even our fault. But to be known for being overly polite certainly isn’t the worst thing; in fact, we think it should be a point of pride. Better polite than rude, eh?
2) We Have Beautiful Landscapes
As we’ve already established, Canada is an expansive piece of land, and it therefore has a wide range of diverse landscapes. The scenery across the country is pretty impressive, and it’s well-known for housing a lot of beauty. From the awe-inspiring majesty of the Rocky Mountains to the wide open skies of the Prairies to the lush greenery of the coast, there’s a lot to love about our country’s terrain.
3) We Are Diverse
Canada is home to people from all over the world of different ethnicities and heritages, and that’s something to be proud of! Having an established culture that is a diverse mosaic rather than a singular melting pot is wonderful, and it makes our nation that much more unique!
4) We Have Cool Wildlife
Canada is also home to a wide variety of interesting animal species, which is yet another reason to be proud of our nation. We have grizzly bears, polar bears, caribou, moose, beavers, wolves, bison, whales and cougars, just to name a few. If you’re an animal lover, this is a good place to be!
5) We Are Really Good at Hockey
The good old hockey game is a large part of Canadian culture, and we take it fairly seriously. Over the course of history, Canada has placed in the Olympics approximately 20 times in the category for ice hockey, and we think that says something! Hockey is a great sport that brings a lot of joy to the nation; there’s nothing quite like cheering on Team Canada in a crowded room of ecstatic fans.
6) We Invented Poutine
Okay this is a big one, because how could we live without poutine? With the saltiness of the French fries, the ooey-gooey goodness of the cheese curds and the savoury taste of the gravy, poutine truly is a national treasure to be proud of.

7) We Are Bilingual
Canada is a bilingual country, with English and French both as official languages. French is a beautiful language and having it as an official language adds a lot of culture and diversity to Canada. Nous aimons le Français!
8) We Are Well-Liked Around the World
If you’re Canadian and have ever been travelling, this one will resonate with you. In many places around the world, people are excited to hear that you are Canadian when you’re travelling, and consequently treat you quite well. This is because Canada is known for being a polite, kind and peaceful nation, which is pretty great!
9) We Gave the World Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Bieber and Jim Carrey
Canada is home to some very talented people, the above mentioned being just a few of many (Shawn Mendes, Drake, Celine Dion, Rachel McAdams and Shania Twain being a few more). But let’s be honest: what would the world do without The Notebook or Dumb and Dumber? You’re welcome universe.

10) We are Home to Tim Hortons
Last but certainly not least, you can be proud to be Canadian because we are home to Timmies. There’s nothing quite like a good cup of coffee and a Timbit to get you through the morning, and with a Timmies on almost every corner, you’re always covered.
