How to Survive Summer in the Office

We look forward to summer all winter long, dreaming of days at the beach or sitting in the sun drinking a nice cold glass of our favourite beverage. However, come summer, that is far from the typical day for most of us. If you are anything like me, you probably spend a big part of your summer looking out your office window – wishing I could be out there too. But summer in the office doesn’t have to awful. There are many ways we can make the office a summer friendly zone! Here are 5 tips on how to survive summer in the office!

1. Lunch Break Outside

The best way to cure the office blues is to get out of the office. Weather it’s just a short walk around your office or finding a nice park to eat lunch in, a break outside will give you that refreshing boost you need. It can be hard to stay positive but fresh air and sunshine can get you through even the hardest days.

2. Activate your Sitting

There is something about a traditional office chair that can make you feel even more stuck during the summer month. Although they can be very ergonomically friendly and comfortable during work, they don’t allow you to integrate movement into your workday.

Active sitting solutions give you lots of energy throughout the day because you can move while still sitting down at your desk. Our top pick for an active stool that brings movement to your day is the Kore Office Plus Standing Desk Active Chair. This stool has a rounded base that allows you to wobble and shift, making it easy for your knees, hips and back to be as comfortable as possible. We also love the Varier Variable Balans kneeling chair. This chair has a unique design that releases tension from the spine and promotes positive posture for prolonged periods. These active sitting solutions will get you through even the longest summer days at the office.

3. Dim the Lights

Fluorescent lights have been proven to harm productivity, so if you have natural light in your office space try dimming your lights or turning them off. Up to the summer is beautiful and bright weather! Using natural light will help to make your office feel less like an office while you are stuck at your desk.

4. Stand at Your Desk!

Sitting down all day can be a bummer. Not to mention it’s bad for your productivity and health. If you have a standing desk, take advantage of it during the summer months. It’s a great way to add some movement into your day without leaving your office. If you don’t already have a standing desk we would totally recommend getting one! The Luxor Level Up 32” Pro Standing Desk Converter, it’s very budget friendly at $374.99 and you can use it right out of the box.

5. Paid time off? Use it!

Working all summer is totally possible, but it’s not always worth it. If you have paid time off – now would be the perfect time to use it. Book a few days off and hang around your city. It’s a great chance to clear your head and enjoy the weather for a few days.

For those of us that must work all summer long, you aren’t alone! Our summer dreams will have to wait because there is always work to do. We hope these tips help you to learn how to enjoy being at the office even throughout the summer months. But make sure you remember to have some fun in the sun too!
