Our Five Health Goals for 2019 Fitneff Canada

Can you believe it’s already 2019? 2018 absolutely flew by, and so here we are again at the beginning of a brand-new year. It’s so exciting to think about all of the possibilities to come!

Now I don’t know about you, but we think this is also an excellent time to sit down and start thinking about wellness intentions for the year to come. The new year brings a fresh start and the perfect opportunity to press the reset button on your wellness routines in order to be your best and healthiest self.

So what are your wellness goals for 2019? If you’re feeling a little unsure of where to start, we’re here to help! To bring you some inspiration, we thought we would have a few Fitneff employees share their wellness goals for the year ahead. Without further ado, here are some of the Fitneff Team’s 2019 health commitments!

Fitneff Team Wellness Goals

Tanya: This year I'm taking a different approach to my goals. My focus is me. I know that sounds odd, but I am focusing on all the things that make me feel good, about me and about my days. I am adding weights to my ankles when I walk my dog, I am decluttering my spaces, I'm adding a standing desk to my home office, I'm drinking more water and less caffeinated beverages and I'm being more conscious about what I eat during the day. What foods do I feel sluggish after eating, what invigorates me? I am scheduling in time for myself to do the things I love: hiking, painting, gardening, reading and long hot baths with great books. This year, it's all about how I feel and making sure I am excited about each tomorrow.

Matt: My goal is to move more and eat healthier. It can be hard for me to stay active in the winter months because my usual go-to of jogging isn't safe on the snowy and icy roads. I'm going to try to snowshoe, cross-country ski and ice skate as much as possible. I also need to get back in the routine of eating more vegetables and cutting out sweets (even though I still have so much chocolate left from Christmas!).

Ron: 2019 is going to be the year I kick the “comfort food” habit. Staying active and moving all the time has become integral to my daily life, but it has been hard to limit eating my favourite foods like pasta and cheese. In 2019, I am going to be deliberate about the food I eat, try to plan my meals to be healthier and take away the temptations that I mindlessly eat when I am bored or busy.  Not saying I won’t eat any comfort food this coming year, but control and moderation will be the key.

Angelique: I want 2019 to be a year of music. More concerts, more lessons, more creating.  I am doing this as a cognitive and mental health goal as I recently read an article that discussed that music memory were not lost during Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Rachel: I have a couple of health-related goals for 2019. First, I want to commit to working out AT LEAST once a week. In the past, I haven’t always been consistent with exercising on a regular basis, so I wanted to set myself a goal that is realistic, fully achievable and yet still challenging. In order to complete this goal, I plan to invest in fun exercise classes that I’ll actually enjoy going to and to also deliberately schedule time in each week for exercise. Another goal of mine is to run a 10K. I’ve never been a great runner, but last year I ran my first 5K and I want to go further this year. I will draft a running schedule for myself to slowly build up to the place I need to be in order to achieve this goal.
